Kensington High School is located in a former factory district of the city. Students from Jones Middle School, Penn Treaty Middle School, Ludlow, Adaire, and McKinley. The student body represents an exemplary model of racial and cultural diversity. The ethnic breakdown is as follows: Latino 50%, White 28%, African American 18%, and Asian 3%. Ninety-two percent (92%) of the student population falls below the national poverty level.
International School of Business, Finance and Entrepreneurship
The International School of Business/ Finance and Entrepreneurship will provide students with a program that leads to a High School diploma, entry level positions and further education. Increase in numbers of AP courses and college guidance will lead to increased successful student graduation, college placement and retention. There will be opportunities in Advanced Placement and Dual Enrollment courses. Courses in Spanish and Spanish Heritage Language and Culture, French, and Japanese will provide students with global understanding, cultural awareness and appreciation.
Courses in English, Social Studies, Science and Math will encompass not only Core Curriculum, but focus on knowledge and application of the school’s theme. Partnerships with businesses and universities will provide students with multiple opportunities for internships and mentorships. University partnerships are being created with Temple International Law School with opportunities to learn with law students and participate in Teen Court. A partnership is planned with Villanova’s Chemistry department through an NIE Grant in order to provide enriched learning and research experience in math and science with the opportunity for paid summer fellowships for students and staff.
