An Overview
J.S. Jenks is a lovely little K-8 school located in the heart of
Chestnut Hill in the Northwest section of Philadelphia. The
student population is approximately 500 students with two classes
in each grade as well as a Life Skills class, two Inclusion/
Learning Support classes and a gifted support program.
The Students
Our student population is a diverse community committed to academic excellence.
The children consistently achieve well above the national average on standardized tests, and
create a safe and welcoming environment.
The Staff
In addition to the principal, J.S. Jenks employs an Administrative Coordinator,
a Literacy and Math Coach, a Counselor, a Computer Specialist, an Art Specialist,
a Music Specialist, a Physical Education Specialist, and a Nurse. Of the teachers on our staff, most have at least
15 years of experience, and a few have more than 25! Additional support
staff consists of Classroom Assistants, Supportive Service Assistants,
Student Teachers and Noontime Aides.
Learning Communities and the Curriculum
We share a very rigorous and structured educational
curriculum with other schools in the School District of Philadelphia,
supplemented by materials and assemblies geared toward
Jenks Learning Communities which highlight themes of
Community (K-3), Science, Nature and Environment (4-5) and Global Exploration (6-8).

Notable programs and activities
Jenks hosts a very active
Home and School Association with strong parental involvement. We are committed to
building on our students' achievements in concert with the District's placement of the
Lankenau Motivation Magnet High School nearby.
