Welcome to the Julia de Burgos web site.
We are a large elementary school in the Kensington Section of Philadelphia.
We have a state of the arts facility with two science labs and two computer
labs.
We service 800 students from Pre-k to 8. Our population is 87 percent Hispanic,
11.8 percent African American, and 1.1 percent White. Due to overcrowded
conditions in the Central East Region, a large percentage of our students
come by bus from surrounding schools. We have 30 regular grade classrooms,
7 specialist teachers, 7 Special education teachers, a Counselor, a certified
Librarian, 1 Assistant Principal, a Consultant and Education Mental Health
Worker. We also have 8 Supportive Service Assistants who support instruction
in classrooms. To support school climate and provide safe environment,
we have 6 Noontime Assistants, 2 Non-teaching Assistants and 2 School Police
Officers. Our educational experience is supported by the Beacon Family
Center, which is partnered with us to provide a number of social services
and after school programs for our students.
