District Calls for More Parent Volunteers
The School District of Philadelphia likes to have school zone safety programs implemented in and around its schools, but we need your assistance to make them work. We are urging our parents and community members to help us help our children by volunteering at your neighborhood school. For volunteer information, please call 215-400-4000 or e-mail us at volunteer@phila.k12.pa.us. All volunteers will need to have an PA Child Abuse History Clearance and Criminal Reference Check completed.
- Parent Patrols bring parents into the building to help patrol the school
and the safe corridors around the school. Parents from the school’s community
not only raise visibility, but afford volunteers the opportunity to know what
is going on in the schools while building a relationship with students.
For volunteer information please contact: (215) 400-4018 or e-mail us at volunteer@phila.k12.pa.us
- Parent Assistance Desk functions as a welcome resource for incoming visitors, assists
with guiding visitors to their destination, and provides resource information to
parents, students and visitors.
For volunteer information please contact: (215) 400-4018 or e-mail us at volunteer@phila.k12.pa.us
- Safe Corridors is a collaborative effort between the District, businesses,
schools and the school community to provide additional supervision and safety
for students as they travel to and from school. While on well lit, high traffic
corridors students will be able to know that there are safe havens along the
route and that parents and staff are traveling the corridors, ensuring their safe
passage.

The District has Safe Corridors in many of its schools, but now the next step is to broaden the ranks of patrol volunteers. This is important because the more people are participating, like any neighborhood watch program, the more effective it will be. Volunteers should be vigilant, watch from home and as they travel throughout the City, work in teams, share information and report anything suspicious or out of the ordinary.
