1. Purpose

The normal school day for the instruction of the pupils of this district shall be in accordance with law and with the following guidelines.

2. Guidelines

The regular school session may be temporarily altered when such alternation is in the best interests of the district by the Superintendent with the approval of the Board president.

The Superintendent may close the schools, delay the opening of schools, or dismiss school early for emergency reasons and to protect the health and safety of students and staff members, and shall prepare rules for the proper and timely notification of concerned persons in the event of such emergency closing. Every attempt shall be made to have information regarding the city-wide closing of schools on the air by 6:00 a.m.

Day School Programs : The broadcast number for all day schools of the district is 100, although most radio and television stations will refer to the public schools by name. If schools cannot open at the regular time, they will remain closed for the day.

Evening School Programs : The broadcast number for all evening schools operated by the district is 250, although most radio and television stations will refer to the public evening schools by name.

Saturday Programs : When Saturday programs of the district are cancelled, information shall be broadcast by the radio and television stations.

The Superintendent shall develop guidelines which allow students to enter schools, and to leave schools, under exceptional conditions so that variances with the normal school schedule may be accommodated. Such guidelines shall consider such things as inclement weather, family illness, and other similar circumstances.
