211. STUDENT ACCIDENT INSURANCE

1. Purpose
 

  1. The Board recognizes the need for insurance coverage for unforeseen accidents which may occur to students in the course of attendance at school or student participation in the athletic and extracurricular programs of the schools.

2. Authority
 
  1. The Board shall offer to students, on a voluntary basis, the opportunity to purchase accident insurance for medical expenses resulting from injuries sustained during school time or 24 hours a day and extended dental expenses resulting from injuries sustained 24 hours a day.

  3. Insurance will be provided for accidents suffered by football players, participants in senior high school interscholastic sports, as well as band and cheerleading members.

3. Delegation of Responsibility
 
  1. The Superintendent shall prepare specifications and secure suitable coverage from qualified insurance carriers for recommendation and Board consideration; notify all students and/or parent of students who may be eligible for insurance.
